Alice Wells Arrives in Islamabad
United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday, according to reports.
United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday, according to reports.
A high-level US delegation arrived in Islamabad and will hold delegation-level talks with the Pakistani leadership, Geo TV reported.
Wells’ visit comes a day after the Indian government had rushed through a presidential decree to abolish Article 370 of the Constitution that grants special status to Indian occupied Kashmir.
According to Pakistani officials, India is deliberately stoking tensions in the region since it is upset with Pakistan once against taking the centre stage of Afghan peace process.
The US Department of State also in a statement had said it was “closely following the events in the state of Jammu and Kashmir”.
US special envoy on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad headed to New Delhi as well, which according to him, this is a prescheduled meeting to further build international consensus in the support of the Afghan peace process.
