At least 12 Afghan security force members were killed in a car bomb attack on a military base in the southern province of Maidan Wardak, according to local officials.

Rahman Mangal, a spokesman for the provincial governor said, the incident happened early Monday morning in Maidan Shahr when a car-laden explosive went off near the military base.
Three attackers were killed by the security forces, he added.

Health officials, meanwhile, said that at least 12 were killed and 28 others were wounded during the attack.
Taliban group claimed responsibility.
