The GNC for the Salvation of Afghanistan had given an ultimatum to the government to meet their demands on how to hold the election process about two weeks ago. The ultimatum was completed on Saturday 25 August.
“the Grand National Coalition in collaboration with other parties and political movements launch civil disobedience campaign in central and provinces of the country since (25 August 2018), and will firmly stand beside the nation to defend Afghanistan’s political life. It will do anything possible to prevent the planned electoral engineering,” said the GNC’s statement.
The use of technology in the election (biometric), the change of the electoral system from a non-transferable vote system to a transferable vote based on the parties’ share, and giving the right to monitor all electoral processes are the proposals of the political parties to bring electoral reforms.
However, last week, the presidential palace ordered the electoral commissions in a verdict to provide the use of technology during the election days.
The parliamentary and district councils election is scheduled to be held on 20 October 2018.
