The disqualified candidates from the parliamentary election said during a press conference in Kabul they have evidence and documents that indicate the head of Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) is involved in organized crimes, taking bribe by his trusted men.
It is worth mentioning that a number of ECC personnel have been arrested over allegedly taking bribe.
Fawzia Koofi, one of the disqualified candidate said during the press conference that ECC does not have the capacity to implement its legal commitments and to prepare voters before the end of 2018.
Ms Koofi further said that the removed candidates have evidence that point out the head of ECC has a political approach towards the candidates as well as being involved in financial corruption.
We urge from the legal and judicial organs to thoroughly investigate the two detainees – a provincial commissioner to Parwan province and another one named Saifuddin Akbari, who has been arrested over commissioning for the head of ECC and is currently in prison – and inform the people about the investigations, she added.
She noted that at this crucial moment, elections should be the basis for peace and stability in the country, not a new crisis.
At the end, the disqualified candidates called on the international institutions, supporting Afghan election process, to thoroughly monitor the process so that it can be carried out transparent and far from political approaches.
