Ghazni Electoral Controversy Requires More Consultations – ARG

The problem of how the parliamentary and district elections should be held in Ghazni province, was the subject of the National Security Council (NSC) debate on Tuesday.
The presidential palace said in a statement that participants of the NSC meeting have discussed election rules, holding parliamentary and district elections in Ghazni province on the basis of the article 104 of the electoral law.
The NSC decided that the problem of Ghazni election requires technical and practical studies and consultations, and called on the IEC to report specific and practical alternatives for decision-making at the next session.
The IEC had previously announced to hold the elections in Ghazni based on electoral zones; the IEC made the decision after the Ghazni residents protested against election process in the province as one specific ethnic group gets way to the parliament, therefore, closed the provincial election office.
