Iranian Delegation Stresses on Preserving Gains and Republic in Trip to Kabul
The Iranian embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Saturday that the Iranian delegation in their trip to Kabul accentuated the survival of the republic and the achievements of the Afghan constitution.
‘”Iran’s principled policy towards Afghanistan is based on supporting the achievements of the country in the last two decades, and accordingly, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly backs holding presidential elections in Afghanistan. After the elections, Iran did its best to resolve issues among political rivals and establish a common understanding among them,” the statement said.
The statement added that the Iranian delegation visited Kabul to consult with senior Afghan officials regarding Tehran’s clear policy on Afghanistan peace process and held meetings with President Ashraf Ghani, the chairman of the high council for national reconciliation, the national security adviser, the acting minister of foreign affairs, and some other prominent political figures of Afghanistan.
“At a critical juncture when the formation of a framework for the inter-Afghan talks aimed at achieving lasting peace in Afghanistan is underway, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran – pursuing the same principled policy of maintaining the republic and constitutional structure – travels to Kabul to consult with senior officials, including the President, the head of high council for national reconciliation, the former President, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Advisor and some other prominent political figures of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,” read the statement.
Tehran has always supported Kabul’s stance in the peace process, stressing that this process should be led and owned by the Afghan government.
