Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai is seeking to chair consultative Loya Jirga on peace, sources told DID press.
The source told under conditions that “Karzai had already somehow signaled the issue to Ashraf Ghani in order to put the peace process to him”.
It is said that president Ghani had not listened to Karzai’s remarks and pushed to take control of the peace process, in which it made Karzai struggle more against him. Some believe that Karzai’s participation in Moscow format and taking a gathering of politicians there was a maneuver against Ashraf Ghani to force him to accept his demand.
Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani discussed the peace process and consultative Loya Jirga during a meeting on Sunday night, sources close to Karzai said. The issue of who will chair Loya Jirga was likely been raised as well.
However, it does not seem that a technocrat like Ashraf Ghani easily retreats against a feudal one like Hamid Karzai.
The peace consultative Loya Jirga (national assembly) is expected to be held on 17 March 2019 in Kabul and will continue for three days.
