Mohaqiq to Yamamoto: Parties Want Change in Electoral System / Voter Registration Process Fantasy

During the meeting, Mr Mohaqiq said the political parties main demand changes within the electoral system.
Mr. Yamamato gave a detailed explanation of the electoral process, the technical assistance of the United Nations to the electoral bodies and the election monitoring mechanism to the second deputy of the executive directorate.
Mr. Yamamoto said the United Nations is pushing to identify fraudulent electoral areas through the use of oversight mechanisms and eliminate it by the support of the people and the Afghan government.
The Special Representative called on Mohaqiq to cooperate with the body for validating the electoral process and identifying areas of fraud.
The UN Representatives said 2400 polling centers are blocked out of 7,400 centers, and about 5,000 other polling centers need to be monitored.
According to Mr. Yamamoto, a meeting is scheduled to be held in Kabul with the participation of representatives of the electoral bodies, presidential palace and Sapidar, political parties, local authorities, security agencies, the United Nations and key electoral assistants to identify the areas of fraud and establish a monitoring mechanism for the election process.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Mohaqiq said the Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan has recently been formed with the aim to moderate the political situation and strengthen the national unity in the country, as well as 35 political parties and movements, have proposed their electoral plans to the government.
The second deputy to the Executive Directorate said the voter registration process is an imaginary one, and this process has not been really carried out.
Mr Mohqiq said changing the electoral system from (SNTV) to (MDR) are the main demands of the political parties and political movements, which by the fulfillment of the two cases, it will greatly ensure transparency of the election.
Mohaqiq considered the current electoral system as fraudulent and emphasized that if the government ignores the demands of the political parties, the political parties and movements may boycott the election and the process will face a trouble in the country.
