Given the good economic and political relations between Afghanistan and India, President Ghani said Afghanistan-India ties are grounded on mutual interests.
Prime Minister Modi once again extended congratulation to President Ghani on securing a second term in office and said election of Afghanistan’s leader by people and through a democratic process demonstrates the trust and commitment of Afghans to democratic principles and stressed that India will fully support democracy in Afghanistan, the presidential palace said in a statement.
President Ghani termed India’s support for Afghanistan significant and lauded the Indian Prime Minister for his videoconference initiative held between the SAARC leaders on curbing the spread of coronavirus and expressed Afghanistan’s commitment to jointly work with SAARC and regional countries to combat the contagion.
Prime Minister Modi extended gratitude to the president for announcing assistance to the Covid-19 Emergency Fund and said it is a testimony to the importance, given by President Ghani, to promote cooperation through SAARC and is a significant step towards welfare in the region.
President Ghani underscored that the trade and economic cooperation with India should remain in place and further enhanced, particularly on purchasing of wheat and rice and said precautionary measures should be adopted to help us fight the spread of coronavirus.
