National Negotiation team Forming in Kabul: Khalilzad

US state department’s special representative on Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad said there is progress on forming a national team in Kabul as peace talks continue in Doha, Qatar.
“Meetings were productive,” said Mr Khalilzad after a three day solid talks with Taliban in Doha. “We continue to take slow, steady steps toward understanding and eventually peace,” he added.

The US especial envoy, meanwhile, said that “As talks continue in Doha, there is also progress on forming a national team in Kabul ready to engage in intra-Afghan dialogue and talks with the Taliban”.
US and Taliban delegation will take the next two days for internal deliberations, with plans to regroup on Saturday.
“All four key issues remain on the table,” he added.

On other hand, Taliban said in a statement that Mullah Baradar Akhund met with the deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Abdul Rahman al-Thani, National Security Advisor Muhammad al-Masnad, US State Department’s Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad and the commander of foreign forces in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller.

“Extensive discussions were held about the method of foreign troops withdrawal from Tuesday till Wednesday noon and from that time onwards, discussion revolved around preventing Afghanistan from being used against others,” the statement read.
