Rahmatullah Nabil:

Our Peace Turned out Proxy process, Taliban over-legitimized, Khalilzad’s Activities Suspicious

Former head of National Directorate of Security (NDS) Rahmatullah Nabil commented on the peace process, US envoy Khalilzad’s activities, and Pakistan’s interventions.

Former head of National Directorate of Security (NDS) Rahmatullah Nabil commented on the peace process, US envoy Khalilzad’s activities, and Pakistan’s interventions.

Speaking at a press conference in Kabul on Saturday, former head of NDS said that the peace process has been proxy so far and that others are making decision about the fate of Afghan peace process.
Rahmatullah Nabil offered two different kinds of definition out of peace, saying that the “real peace” and “peace in the sense of a deal” should be distinguished. According to him, all the people of Afghanistan want a real peace. He also called for a “conscious” approach towards the so-called peace deal.

He called the ongoing peace a “political and economic peace” for some countries. He did not name any country, but said that a special privilege and veto had been given to Pakistan in the Afghan peace process.
Rahmatullah Nabil also expressed doubts about US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad’s peace efforts, adding that he is working for the interests of his country.
According to Mr. Nabil, the people of Afghanistan have the right to doubt and ask about Khalilzad’s peace efforts.

Former head of NDS, on the other hand, said that Taliban have been over-legitimized in the past two years since they think they can take the control of Afghanistan through war.
Criticizing the current peace formula, Nabil underlined that If the situation continues this way, Afghanistan will become the center of confrontation between the countries of the region and the world.
