State Department of Uzbekistan announced that the meeting will be opened by president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to Uzbekistani news service, the world peace conference will be held on 26 and 27 March 2018.
UN secretary general Antonio Guterres, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, foreign ministers of the Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, China, Russia, United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Turkey, India, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are invited to the conference.
This comes after the Afghanistan president Ashraf Ghani has recently suggested a peace plan to Taliban, attended by representatives of 25 countries. If the Taliban accepts the constitution of Afghanistan government, Kabul is ready to recognize Taliban as a political movement.
The peace plan of Afghanistan government has been welcomed by the United States, Pakistan and Britain. But the Taliban described the peace offer as “plot” and rejected it.
