Peace process; Khalilzad Heads to Doha, Region
US Special envoy on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad headed to Qatar to discuss peace process, regional connectivity, trade and development.
Ambassador Khalilzad twitted early Wednesday morning that he has embarked on trip to Doha and the region to meet partners on Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace negotiation as well as regional connectivity.
“Headed back to Doha and the region to meet with partners on Afghan-owned, Afghan-led peace negotiations and prospects for increased regional connectivity, trade, and development following peace,” said Khalilzad.
He added that the Afghan people and international community are watching closely and expect the negotiations to make progress toward producing a roadmap for Afghanistan’s political future and a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.
Khalilzad’s visit from Doha comes as the Afghan government and Taliban negotiating teams have not yet reached an agreement on procedures and principles of the talks after the elapse of 19 days.
