Peace Talks; Khalilzad Briefs NUG Leaders about Peace

President M. Ashraf Ghani met with the US Special Representative Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad on Afghan peace process on Thursday.
During the meeting, attended by Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, Mr. Khalilzad briefed President Ghani on his trips to a number of regional countries for peace efforts in Afghanistan, according to a statement released by the presidential palace.
Praising Khalilzad’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan, President Ghani said the Afghan government unveiled his negotiating team in Geneva conference and that the will to bring peace in the country is serious.
“joint peace efforts can help us achieve a lasting peace,” president Ghani added.
This is the third round of Khalilzad’s trips to the region and Afghanistan, but has not yet lead to a tangible result and Taliban group insists on their conditions.
Following the meeting, Special Representative Khalilzad departed Afghanistan for Moscow for discussions on regional peace efforts.
