Peace Talks; US Special Envoy Khalilzad Arrives in Pakistan

The US Department of State announced in a press release on Sunday that, “Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad will travel to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar with an interagency delegation from December 2 – 20.”
During the visit, Khalilzad is expected to conduct meetings with the top civil and military leaders of Pakistan, Pakistan Tribune reported.
The visit comes as US president Donald Trump sent a letter to Pakistani PM Imran Khan, asking him to help peace efforts and bring Taliban leaders to negotiation table.
On Monday, Pakistani PM Khan told reporters that his country is ready to play its role in bringing peace in Afghanistan.
