The IEC announced that it will begin recounting votes in the seven remaining provinces by Sunday, Dec. 15, after CEO Abdullah Abdullah agreed with the process of recounting votes.
“The commission has full preparation to recount the votes,” said IEC in a statement on Saturday.
Zabihullah Sadat, a spokesman for the IEC said that the presidential election’s preliminary results will be announced shortly after the recount and audit process ended in the seven provinces.
“The recount and audit process will begin in seven provinces by tomorrow. Technical issues are currently being discussed and our colleagues are ready to travel to these provinces,” said Sadat.
According to him, the recount process in the remaining provinces will probably take two days.
The recounting process had been halted by supporters of Stability and Convergence team led by Abdullah in Panjsher, Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Faryab and Jawzjan provinces.
Mr Abdullah on Friday night asked his supporters during a press conference to allow the IEC to complete the recounting process in these provinces.
