US Embassy in Kabul:
Taliban Expect Release of 7 000 more Prisoners
US Charge d’Affaires Ross Wilson says that the Taliban expect the release of 7 000 prisoners of the group by mid-December.
US charge d’Affaires Ross Wilson told reporters on Sunday that the Taliban – under US-Taliban agreement – want their 7 000 prisoners to be released by mid-December.
“Under the terms of the US-Taliban agreement, the Taliban expect there would be progress on releasing 7,000 prisoners by roughly mid-December,” he said.
According to Mr Wilson, all of the provisions of the US – Taliban agreement are interlocked with one another.
On Sunday, Taliban spokesman Naeem Wardak said that the deputy political office of the group in Qatar Mullah Baradar in a meeting with US Special Envoy on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad discussed the release of Taliban prisoners, dropping Taliban members from the blacklist, and other related issues.
The release of 7 thousand more Taliban prisoners comes as there is still no agreement on a ceasefire and the release of over 5 thousand prisoners of the group followed by severe criticism.
