An Afghan senator claimed the government released a former Taliban self-declared governor for Kunduz, who was in Pul-e Charkhi prison as a member of Hezb-e Islami inmate.

According to the senator, the released prisoner joined the Taliban ranks again.
“Mawlawi Abdul Rahman, who was appointed as Taliban self-declared governor for Kunduz province, has been recently released in the frame of Hezb-e Islami prisoners,” said Abdullah Qarluq, the representative of Kunduz people at Wolesi Jirga.
Mawlawi Abdul Rahman was arrested by the Afghan security forces in eastern Nangarhar province about 10 years ago and was kept in Pul-e Charkhi prison in capital Kabul.
“Mawlawi Abdul Rahman returned to Kunduz province and launched terrorist activities against the government,” Mr Qarluq added. “he has formed a military front against the government in Dasht-e Archi district and has attended several military operations against the government,” he emphasized.
Criticizing the government, Mr Qarluq said attention not paid to the release of Hezb-e Islami inmates as there are claims saying most of the released Taliban commanders are among the prisoners of Hezb-e Islami.
He expressed concerns over the release of Mawlawi Abdul Rahman, saying the security institutions should arrest this Taliban commander as soon as possible.
On the other hand, the chairman of the senate Fazal Hadi Muslimyar called for the investigation on the release of Mawlawi Abdul Rahman as well.
“the issue must be clear that how the Taliban commander has been released in the frame of Hezb-e Islami inmates,” Mr Muslimyar accentuated.
This comes as Kandahar police chief General Abdul Raziq had previously claimed that a person who was released in the frame of Hezb-e Islami inmates, carried out a suicide attack on the foreign forces military convoy in southern Kandahar province.
