Taliban Interested in Ceasefire on Eid al-Adha – ARG
The presidential palace (ARG) said late Saturday that the government and Taliban are interested in announcing the second round of ceasefire during the days of Eid al-Adha.
The presidential palace (ARG) said late Saturday that the government and Taliban are interested in announcing the second round of ceasefire during the days of Eid al-Adha.
“ceasefire is the will of the Afghan people and religious scholars,” said the presidential spokesman Haroon Chakhansori at a press conference.
He described the Eid ceasefire between the government and Taliban as a successful experience, saying that both sides are willing to declare a ceasefire on the days of Eid al-Adha as well.
The presidential spokesman read the ceasefire as president Ghani’s initiative, saying the government does not need to consult with the International Community in declaring a ceasefire.
“the states supporting Afghanistan, especially the USA play their role as a facilitator,” Chakhansori added.
However, the Taliban group has recently said that they have met with American officials on peace in Afghanistan several times.
