UN Emphasizes Bilateral Negotiations for Recognizing Taliban Government

Kabul, Afghanistan – Indrika Ratwatte, the UN spokesperson in Afghanistan, stated that the decision to recognize the Taliban government falls under the authority of the UN General Assembly. He underscored the importance of direct dialogues to address concerns and find common solutions, particularly regarding women’s rights.

Ratwatte also called for the voluntary, safe, and dignified return of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, praising Iran and Pakistan for hosting millions of Afghan migrants over the past four decades.

Highlighting the decline in funding for humanitarian aid, he noted that approximately $14 billion has been allocated for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan since 2021.
