Taliban Approves 12 Key Energy and Infrastructure Projects

DID Press: Taliban’s economic commission approved 12 major projects spanning energy, infrastructure, transport, and public services, aiming to strengthen core systems and expand access to essential services across Afghanistan.

According to the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs, the projects will be implemented in multiple provinces, with a primary focus on upgrading the national power grid and improving public infrastructure.

A significant portion of the plan targets electricity development, including power transmission to Paktika, expansion of double-circuit lines from Ghazni, and reinforcement of energy networks in Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, and Uruzgan. Electrification of underserved districts such as Gereshk and Tarinkot is also included.

The projects further emphasize expanding transmission capacity from the Kajaki Dam, a move expected to enhance energy supply across southern regions.

In the agriculture sector, irrigation system improvements have been approved for Faryab province to support farming productivity and water efficiency.

Public service initiatives include upgrading the 350-bed Aino Mina hospital in Kandahar and constructing a large central mosque in Nimroz with a capacity of 40,000 worshippers.

Transport infrastructure is also a key pillar, with railway expansion plans along the Torghundi–Herat and Andkhoy–Sheberghan–Mazar-e-Sharif corridors, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and trade integration.
