DID Press: At least two people were injured after a shooting incident near the White House in Washington, according to US Secret Service officials.

Matthew Quinn said the incident occurred Monday evening around 7:30 GMT near the National Mall. Plainclothes officers reportedly spotted an armed individual in the area.

When agents attempted to engage the suspect, he fled and opened fire toward security personnel. Officers returned fire, wounding the attacker, who was later transported to a hospital. His condition remains unclear.

A child present at the scene was also injured but is reported to be in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.

Quinn noted that the motorcade of US Vice President JD Vance had passed through the same area shortly before the shooting. The incident took place at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, close to the White House.

Security measures around the White House were temporarily heightened following the incident, though authorities later confirmed that the situation had returned to normal. The United States Secret Service is responsible for protecting senior US officials and visiting foreign dignitaries.
