Xi, Putin Hold Strategic Talks in Beijing

DID Press: Xi Jinping officially welcomed Vladimir Putin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday, as the two leaders held talks focused on expanding strategic cooperation and discussing major international issues.

The meeting follows a video conference between the two presidents held on February 4. Putin traveled to Beijing at the official invitation of the Chinese president.

According to reports, the two sides are holding both private and expanded meetings covering bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and global affairs. China and Russia also extended their Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation during the visit.

Xi called for deeper strategic coordination and broader cooperation between Beijing and Moscow to support the development interests of both countries.

Around 40 cooperation agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, including 21 documents to be formally endorsed in the presence of the two presidents. The agreements reportedly involve government, trade, and economic institutions from both countries.

The leaders are also scheduled to attend the launch ceremony of the “China–Russia Years of Education and Cultural Exchanges 2026–2027” and visit a joint exhibition organized by Russia’s TASS and China’s Xinhua News Agency on the history of bilateral relations.

Putin’s program in Beijing also includes a separate meeting with Li Qiang focused on practical economic cooperation.

The visit is expected to conclude with a restricted-format meeting between Xi and Putin, where senior Russian officials say key international issues will be discussed.
