Azerbaijan Signals Expansion of Relations With Afghanistan

DID Press: Hikmet Hajiyev has announced that Azerbaijan is seeking to expand cooperation with Afghanistan across multiple sectors, highlighting longstanding historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Global Cities Forum in Baku on May 22, Hajiyev said Kabul and Baku are working to strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen diplomatic engagement.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission in Kabul remains “fully active” at ambassadorial level.

According to Hajiyev, last year’s visit by Azerbaijan’s deputy prime minister to Kabul focused on exploring economic and trade cooperation opportunities between the two sides.

“We see broad prospects for cooperation between the two countries, and most importantly, people-to-people ties between Afghanistan and Azerbaijan are of special importance,” he said.

The Azerbaijani official also pointed to the presence of Afghan students in Azerbaijan, describing education as one of the sectors with strong potential for future cooperation between Kabul and Baku.
