Pakistan Resumes Deportations of Afghan Migrants; 44 Shops Closed in Khyber

DID Press: Authorities in Pakistan have resumed the deportation of Afghan migrants following the Eid holidays in Khyber District, alongside enforcement actions that included the closure of dozens of shops, according to local reports.

Official Pakistani sources said the repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals is continuing across multiple areas. They stated that at least 1,208 Afghan migrants have been returned to Afghanistan under the ongoing process.

Authorities also reported that 42 legal cases were registered in Khyber against individuals accused of lacking valid residency documentation. Those affected were later deported to Afghanistan via the Torkham Crossing after completing administrative procedures.

In parallel, 44 shops owned by Afghan nationals in Bara, Jamrud, and Landi Kotal were sealed, with officials alleging involvement in unauthorized commercial activity. The measures were described as part of government policy aimed at curbing illegal residency and business operations.

Meanwhile, the continued closure of the Torkham crossing over the past eight months has reportedly disrupted trade and mobility between the two countries. Transport union representatives say hundreds of drivers and cargo vehicles remain stranded on both sides of the border, with no resolution yet in sight.
