OCHA Warns Restrictions Worsen Maternal Mortality Crisis in Afghanistan
DID Press: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that Afghanistan continues to record one of the highest maternal mortality rates globally, with approximately 600 deaths per 100,000 live births.

In its latest report, OCHA emphasized that access to specialized healthcare and the presence of female health workers are critical for saving the lives of mothers and newborns.
The agency said that restrictions affecting women’s participation in society and the health sector have significantly reduced access to essential and life-saving medical services for families across the country.
OCHA cautioned that continued limitations could have severe and long-term consequences for maternal and child health in Afghanistan.
The report called for strengthened healthcare services and greater support for female health professionals to help address the worsening crisis.
