Pakistan Warns UN Over Alleged Arms Stockpiles in Afghanistan
DID Press: Pakistan has raised concerns at the United Nations over alleged stockpiles of weapons in Afghanistan, warning that their proliferation could threaten regional stability and empower armed groups.

During the ninth meeting of states parties to the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Islamabad claimed that large quantities of advanced weapons and ammunition remain in Afghanistan.
Syed Aatif Raza, a counsellor at Pakistan’s UN mission, said the spread of illicit arms could strengthen militant groups, intensify conflict, and endanger civilians as well as regional security.
He further alleged that such stockpiles could facilitate the transfer of weapons to armed actors and contribute to wider instability across the region.
The comments come amid ongoing international debate over the status and control of weapons left in Afghanistan following years of conflict, with several countries and organizations expressing concern over their potential misuse.
