EU Condemns Taliban Crackdown on Women in Herat

DID Press: European Union has condemned the arbitrary detention of women and the suppression of protesters in Herat, urging Taliban authorities to uphold their international human rights obligations, including the right to peaceful assembly.

Anouar El Anouni said the EU “stands with the women of Afghanistan” and described the use of excessive force and the detention of women over alleged violations of dress regulations as unacceptable.

The EU called on the Taliban to respect fundamental rights and international commitments, stressing that peaceful protest must be protected.
