Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Framework Will Not Return to Pre-War Conditions

DID Press: Abbas Araghchi has said that security and administrative arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz will not return to their pre-war framework, while outlining what he described as ongoing diplomatic understandings between Iran and the United States.

Speaking about negotiations with United States, Araghchi said discussions have included issues related to mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in domestic affairs, and commitments aimed at preventing further escalation.

According to the Iranian foreign minister, matters concerning the Strait of Hormuz and maritime restrictions have also been addressed in the negotiations. He stated that Iran and Oman have held extensive consultations on the future management of the strategic waterway and indicated that a joint statement could be issued in the near future.

Araghchi argued that diplomacy is most effective when supported by leverage on the ground, describing recent diplomatic developments as being linked to broader regional security dynamics.

On economic issues, he said reconstruction and economic development proposals have been discussed and that mechanisms related to the release of Iranian assets would be addressed in subsequent negotiations.

The foreign minister also stated that any broader settlement linked to the conflict would require political and security arrangements extending beyond an immediate cessation of hostilities. He added that Tehran believes recent diplomatic contacts emerged after its adversaries concluded that military objectives could not be achieved.

The remarks come amid continued regional efforts to reduce tensions and explore diplomatic pathways toward a broader security framework in the Middle East.
