Taliban Seeks Expanded Global Ties and Formal Recognition

DID Press: Suhail Shaheen has renewed calls for the international community to formally recognize the Taliban-led administration, arguing that the movement is seeking broader diplomatic and economic engagement based on what it described as mutual respect and cooperation.

In recent remarks, Shaheen said the Taliban wants to expand relations with countries across the region and beyond and does not seek political isolation.

He claimed that the Taliban administration has strengthened security across Afghanistan in recent years and has been able to maintain territorial control and respond to security challenges.

According to Shaheen, improvements in the security environment represent one of the administration’s principal achievements since returning to power.

The Taliban representative also said efforts have been made to improve economic conditions, attract foreign investment, and expand trade ties with regional and international partners.

Shaheen argued that, from the Taliban’s perspective, there are no major obstacles to international recognition and expressed hope that governments would adopt what he described as a pragmatic approach toward Afghanistan.

Despite growing diplomatic contacts between Taliban officials and several countries, no state has formally granted full international recognition to the Taliban-led administration. The issue remains closely linked to international concerns over governance, human rights, and political inclusivity in Afghanistan.
