Recent Rains Boost Hydropower Generation in Afghanistan
DID Press: Afghanistan’s national power utility has announced that recent rainfall has significantly increased water levels in the country’s hydropower reservoirs, leading to a notable rise in electricity generation.

According to Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the recent precipitation has substantially improved water reserves at major dams, enhancing the country’s electricity production capacity.
Company officials said that nearly 90 percent of Afghanistan’s domestic electricity generation comes from hydropower facilities, making reservoir levels a critical factor in energy output.
Breshna noted that recent rainfall has been among the most significant recorded in recent years, contributing to stronger water reserves and improved operating conditions at power-generating dams.
Mohammad Sadiq Haqparast said that the scale of rainfall and reservoir replenishment has been unprecedented over the past 17 years, helping increase electricity production and improve power supply conditions in parts of the country.
Despite the gains in generation capacity, the utility acknowledged that challenges remain in electricity distribution, with some areas continuing to experience shortages and power outages.
