UK Backs Pakistan’s Right to Self-Defense Against Cross-Border Attacks

DID Press: Britain has affirmed Pakistan’s right to defend itself against attacks originating from Afghan territory, while urging direct dialogue between Kabul and Islamabad to prevent either country’s soil from being used against the other.

During a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, British Foreign Office Minister Hamish Falconer said Pakistan has the right under international law to protect itself and its citizens from cross-border security threats.

Falconer expressed concern over regional security challenges linked to Afghanistan, stressing that such threats extend beyond bilateral relations and could affect wider regional stability.

He emphasized the need for sustained diplomatic engagement between Kabul and Islamabad to ensure that neither country’s territory is used to launch attacks against the other, arguing that stronger security and diplomatic cooperation could help prevent further escalation.

The talks also covered developments related to the Iran ceasefire, security in the Strait of Hormuz, and the protection of global trade routes.

Describing UK–Pakistan relations as “deep and family-like,” Falconer underscored the importance of regional cooperation in maintaining stability across South Asia.

The British minister also addressed the issue of Afghan refugees, calling for coordinated efforts involving Kabul, Islamabad, and international organizations to manage the situation in accordance with international standards and humanitarian principles.
