Former Pentagon Official: Iran Holds Upper Hand in Negotiations

DID Press: A former senior US War Department official has acknowledged that Iran is negotiating from a position of strength, as ongoing diplomatic talks in Switzerland continue to reshape expectations between Tehran and Washington.

Mick Mulroy, who served in the Pentagon during Donald Trump’s first administration, made unusually direct remarks about what he described as a strategic setback for Washington in its recent confrontation with Iran.

He stated that Iranian officials “clearly believe they are in a stronger position” and are already securing concessions that earlier would have been considered unacceptable for any U.S. administration to grant.

His comments come amid intensified diplomatic engagements in Switzerland, where discussions have reportedly reflected a shift in leverage following weeks of heightened regional tensions.

Analysts say the statement reflects broader debates in Washington over the effectiveness of past pressure-based strategies, as well as changing regional dynamics that have complicated U.S. negotiating leverage.
