Rah-e-Farda Media Resumes Operations Under New Ownership

DID Press: The radio and television network Rah-e-Farda has resumed operations after several months of suspension and asset confiscation, now operating under new owners and a fresh license issued by the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture in Afghanistan.

Originally founded nearly two decades ago by political figure Mohammad Mohaqiq, the outlet had halted broadcasting following regulatory actions and the seizure of its assets. Authorities later confirmed that a new operating license has been issued, appointing Salman Akhlaqi as the license holder and Abdul Rahman Mirzad as managing director.

Officials stated that the network is required to operate in accordance with the laws, policies, and guidelines set by the governing authorities.

A formal notice from the ministry indicated that the media outlet had previously been suspended due to what was described as “institutional considerations” involving the Ministry of Information and Culture and intelligence authorities, marking the first official acknowledgment of the confiscation.

The suspension reportedly followed critical remarks by Mohaqiq regarding border tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, after which the outlet ceased broadcasting and its assets came under state control.

Rah-e-Farda has now announced the resumption of HD broadcasting, though regular programming will remain suspended temporarily due to the observance of Muharram.
