DID Press: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has condemned recent US airstrikes on targets along Iran’s southern coastline and Israeli military actions in Lebanon, describing them as violations of the United Nations Charter and the memorandum that ended the recent conflict.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the US military strikes carried out on Friday, June 27, against Iranian coastal surveillance facilities constituted a breach of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of states.
The ministry also argued that the attacks violated the first provision of the war-ending memorandum signed on June 18.
According to the statement, Israel’s attack on Lebanon, allegedly conducted in coordination with the United States, also represents a violation of the same ceasefire framework.
Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran stressed that it reserves its inherent right of self-defense and will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, national security, and interests.
The ministry added that actions taken by Iranian armed forces against targets linked to US forces fall within the framework of self-defense and said responsibility for any consequences rests with the United States and parties involved in actions against Iran.
The statement further called on Gulf countries to uphold the principle of good-neighborly relations and prevent their territories or facilities from being used for military operations against Iran.
Iran also urged António Guterres, the United Nations Security Council, and other international bodies to respond to what it described as violations of international law and the UN Charter, and to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining regional and international peace and security.
