Mahipar Dam Upgrade Reviewed as Afghanistan Plans Higher Electricity Capacity
DID Press: The head of Afghanistan’s national power utility has emphasized that any decision to increase electricity generation capacity at the Mahipar hydropower dam must be based on precise technical evaluations.

During a meeting with the contractor responsible for the rehabilitation of the first turbine at the Mahipar Dam, the chief executive of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat reviewed progress on the project and discussed technical, operational, and future planning details.
Officials from the utility highlighted the strategic importance of the Mahipar facility in ensuring electricity supply across the country, describing the turbine rehabilitation as a key step toward improving generation capacity and grid stability.
The executive director stressed that any expansion of output must be preceded by thorough engineering assessments and specialized studies to ensure efficient and sustainable operation of the infrastructure.
The meeting also underscored the need to accelerate implementation, maintain technical standards, and strengthen coordination between project teams.
Officials expressed hope that once the turbine rehabilitation is completed, electricity generation at Mahipar Dam will increase, contributing to improved service delivery for consumers.
