Germany Seeks Joint Production of US Missiles to Speed Up EU Rearmament

DID Press: Germany is in talks with the United States to jointly produce some of the most advanced American weapon’s systems on German soil, in a move aimed at accelerating European military buildup and easing pressure on U.S. production capacity, according to the Financial Times.

The report says Berlin is seeking approval to manufacture systems such as the Tomahawk cruise missile and the Patriot PAC-3 missile system in Germany.

The initiative is part of Germany’s broader strategy to speed up European rearmament in response to evolving security threats, particularly in relation to Russia.

German officials reportedly believe the country’s industrial base could help offset bottlenecks in U.S. defense production and accelerate the delivery of weapons to European allies. Berlin also hopes that deeper industrial cooperation will strengthen Washington’s long-term commitment to NATO.

The discussions also include potential joint production arrangements for the Tomahawk missiles and the advanced Patriot PAC-3 system, with some U.S. officials reportedly showing more openness than expected to the proposal.

Germany and the United States already maintain extensive defense-industrial cooperation. German firm Rheinmetall, for example, produces components for the F-35 fighter jet, and both countries collaborate on parts of the Patriot missile system.
