DID Press: Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a prominent faction of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has announced that it is ending its affiliation with the group and resuming independent operations, citing internal disputes and organizational grievances.

The group confirmed in a statement that it has formally separated from the TTP and will once again operate as an independent organization.
Spokesman Asad Mansoor said the leadership decided after extensive consultations to revive the group’s “original spirit” and restore its pre-August 2020 organizational structure.
According to the statement, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar will now function independently under the leadership of Umar Khurasani.
The group had previously merged back into the TTP in August 2020 after years of operating separately. It recently claimed responsibility for a suicide attack targeting a Rangers base in Karachi.
In its statement, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar cited internal disputes, alleged “betrayals” within the organization, and broader dissatisfaction as key reasons for the renewed split.
The TTP has not yet issued any response regarding the announcement.
