68 Pakistani Students Return Home Through Torkham Border Crossing

DID Press: Pakistani and Taliban authorities have allowed 68 Pakistani students studying medicine in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province to cross the Torkham border and return to Pakistan after being stranded due to the closure of the crossing.

According to Mohammad Noman, a representative of Pakistani students in Jalalabad, the group received permission to cross the border following a request submitted to the Pakistani government.

Most of the students are from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas of Pakistan and are enrolled in medical faculties in Nangarhar province. They had been unable to travel between Afghanistan and Pakistan because of restrictions at the Torkham crossing.

Reports indicate that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar played a role in facilitating the process after receiving the students’ request through Shafqatullah, Pakistan’s consul general in Jalalabad. Pakistan’s ambassador to Kabul, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, also assisted in the arrangements.

The students thanked Pakistani officials and Taliban authorities for facilitating their return through the Torkham border crossing.
