Afghanistan’s Carpet Industry Expands Global Market Reach

DID Press: Afghanistan’s handmade carpet industry has expanded its global reach, with carpets now being exported to 37 countries, according to officials from the Afghan Carpet Producers and Exporters Union.

The union’s officials said the carpet sector remains one of Afghanistan’s key export industries, generating employment opportunities for thousands of people involved in production, weaving, processing, and international trade.

The head of the union emphasized the need for greater support to producers, expansion of export markets, easier trade procedures, and stronger access for Afghan carpets to global markets.

He added that further development of the carpet industry could contribute significantly to economic growth and increase Afghanistan’s non-oil exports.

Afghan handmade carpets are internationally recognized for their quality, traditional designs, and the craftsmanship of Afghan weavers. In recent years, they have gained attention in markets across Asia, Europe, North America, and several regional countries.
