Taliban, Iran and Tajikistan Sign Transit Corridor Deal
DID Press: Taliban, Iran and Tajikistan have signed a trilateral agreement in Mashhad to establish a joint road transit corridor aimed at boosting regional trade and strengthening the three countries’ role in regional transportation networks.

The agreement was signed during a trilateral meeting hosted by Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Road and Transportation Administration, attended by Reza Akbari, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development; Yarmohammad Ramadan, head of the Taliban delegation; and Shayesteh Saidmoradzadeh, Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Transport.
Under the agreement, a new transit route connecting Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan will be activated, with the first trial cargo shipment expected to pass through the corridor within one month. The pilot operation will assess customs coordination, transportation procedures and border-crossing arrangements.
Officials from the three sides said the corridor could reduce transportation costs, facilitate regional trade and enhance the transit position of the participating countries.
The agreement also includes the formation of a joint working group tasked with addressing administrative obstacles, facilitating visas for drivers, reducing border delays and developing shared insurance mechanisms.
The parties agreed to hold the second round of trilateral talks in Kabul in Mizan (October–November) to finalize a long-term cooperation document and continue implementation of the transit project.
