DID Press: Rafael Grossi warned that the possibility of a new global nuclear arms race represents his “most serious concern,” cautioning that the world could face a highly unstable security environment if nuclear proliferation expands further.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Grossi said discussions are underway around what he described as “friendly nuclear proliferation,” a trend he believes is raising serious international alarm.
He stated that if the number of nuclear-armed states rises to around 20 or more, the global situation would become “extremely dangerous.”
Grossi also warned that weakening the global non-proliferation framework could trigger a cascading chain reaction, beginning with a single breach and spreading rapidly across regions.
According to him, sensitive discussions about potential nuclear capabilities are already taking place in parts of Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia, underscoring the urgency of reinforcing the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
