EU Reaffirms Humanitarian Support for Afghanistan
DID Press: European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Afghan people, pledging continued humanitarian assistance and backing for women’s rights as Afghanistan remains one of the world’s most severe and complex humanitarian crises.

In a post on X, the EU Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva said Daiki Pötzel, the European Union’s ambassador, met with Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), following his recent visit to Afghanistan to discuss the country’s humanitarian situation.
The delegation said the European Union “stands with the people of Afghanistan,” will continue providing life-saving humanitarian assistance, and remains committed to supporting the rights of Afghan women.
The European Union is one of Afghanistan’s largest humanitarian donors, channeling emergency assistance through UN agencies and international relief organizations. It has also reiterated the importance of maintaining humanitarian access and protecting the rights of Afghan women and girls.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), more than 10.7 million women and girls in Afghanistan are expected to require humanitarian assistance this year, making them among the groups most affected by the country’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
