Turkey Urges Iran and US to Resume Diplomatic Talks

DID Press: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has called for the resumption of diplomacy between Iran and the United States, warning that continued tensions between the two sides could threaten regional stability and security.

Speaking to Qatar’s television network during his visit to Doha, Fidan said Qatar was using all diplomatic channels to help resolve the crisis and that Turkey was closely coordinating with Doha on the issue.

Fidan highlighted the economic impact of recent confrontations in the region and stressed the need to revive the previous understanding between Tehran and Washington as a basis for renewed negotiations.

The Turkish foreign minister said the framework agreement prepared with the mediation of Pakistan, active participation of Qatar, and support from Turkey should again serve as a foundation for dialogue.

Fidan also emphasized that the security and stability of Qatar and the wider region are important for Turkey, adding that Ankara would continue cooperating with Gulf countries and the Islamic world to reduce tensions.
