Iran Says 60% of Exports to Afghanistan Pass Through Dogharoun Border

DID Press: Sixty percent of Iran’s exports to Afghanistan are transported through the Dogharoun border crossing, highlighting its strategic role in bilateral trade, according to an official from the Dogharoun Free Trade-Industrial Zone.

Hassan Nourizadeh, Deputy for Economic Development at the Dogharoun Free Trade-Industrial Zone, said 1.7 million metric tons of goods were exported to Afghanistan through the Dogharoun crossing during the first three months of the current Iranian year.

Nourizadeh noted that Iran shares three official border crossings with Afghanistan: Milak in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Mahirud in South Khorasan Province, and Dogharoun in Razavi Khorasan Province.

He said Dogharoun currently handles 60% of Iran’s total exports to Afghanistan, underscoring the border crossing’s importance in expanding Iran’s foreign trade with its eastern neighbor.

According to the official, Iran’s principal exports through Dogharoun include construction materials, steel products, food items, fresh fruits and vegetables, and petroleum products.

Nourizadeh added that oilseeds, sesame, and building stones are among the main commodities imported from Afghanistan into Iran.
