Uzbek Deputy PM Holds Talks with Taliban PM in Kabul

DID Press: Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev met with Taliban Prime Minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund in Kabul, where the two sides discussed expanding political and economic cooperation, with Uzbekistan reaffirming Afghanistan’s importance in its foreign policy.

According to official Uzbek reports, Khodjayev said Afghan exports to Uzbekistan reached $150 million over the past year and announced that Uzbekistan had issued 5,000 visas to Afghan citizens during the same period.

During his visit to Kabul, Khodjayev also held separate meetings with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, and Nooruddin Azizi, the acting minister of industry and commerce. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, facilitating transit, and strengthening cooperation in the energy and transportation sectors.

Uzbek officials said both sides are reviewing plans to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion and expand railway connectivity between Mazar-e-Sharif and Termez, as part of broader efforts to enhance regional economic integration.
