Afghanistan, Uzbekistan Sign $200 Million in Trade Deals

DID Press: Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have signed 22 trade agreements worth more than $200 million, marking a new step in expanding bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation, according to the Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The agreements were signed during the Afghan-Uzbek Trade Forum in Kabul, attended by Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, Jamshid Khodjayev, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, senior Taliban officials, business leaders, and representatives of the private sector from both countries.

Addressing the forum, Azizi described economic relations between Kabul and Tashkent as being at their strongest level and expressed hope that bilateral trade would eventually reach $5 billion. He also encouraged investors from both countries to capitalize on investment opportunities across Afghanistan.

Azizi said Afghanistan has exported 10,000 metric tons of cotton to Uzbekistan on a trial basis, adding that Tashkent has committed to purchasing 100,000 metric tons of Afghan cotton.

Khodjayev highlighted Afghanistan’s economic potential and said Uzbekistan is introducing new measures to facilitate bilateral commerce, including expanded transit routes, preferential tariffs, faster cargo movement, and the development of logistics centers.

The forum concluded with the signing of 22 commercial agreements valued at more than $200 million, a move expected to strengthen trade, encourage joint investment, and deepen economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
