UN Rights Chief: Israeli Actions in Lebanon May Amount to War Crimes

DID Press: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has warned that extensive destruction caused by Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon may constitute war crimes, citing documented violations of international humanitarian law.

Speaking at a press conference in Beirut during a two-day visit to Lebanon, Türk said the UN Human Rights Office has documented widespread violations of international humanitarian law linked to Israeli military actions.

He said the large-scale destruction of villages south of the Litani River has left some communities no longer habitable, raising serious concerns over the humanitarian impact of the conflict.

Türk added that some of the documented violations could amount to war crimes, underscoring the need for accountability and compliance with international law.
