DID Press: Raja Nasir Abbas, opposition leader in Pakistan’s Senate and chairman of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) party, has criticized restrictions on religious gatherings and urged the Punjab government not to limit Ashura and Arbaeen mourning ceremonies.
Abbas said holding religious commemorations within the framework of the law is a fundamental right of citizens and called on authorities to avoid measures that could increase tensions ahead of the Arbaeen observances marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
The Pakistani senator also called on Islamabad to play a mediating role in reducing tensions between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, stressing the importance of diplomatic efforts to address regional disputes.
He further highlighted difficulties faced by pilgrims traveling to holy sites, saying that border restrictions between Pakistan and Iran over the past two years have created challenges for those seeking to participate in religious pilgrimages.
