Three Criminal Networks Busted as 24 Stolen Vehicles Recovered in Herat

DID Press: Authorities in Afghanistan’s western Herat province have announced the arrest of three professional vehicle theft gangs and the recovery of 24 stolen cars following targeted security operations.

The Taliban’s Herat police command said the arrested groups were involved in armed thefts across several provinces and transported stolen vehicles to Herat after carrying out the crimes.

Qari Najibullah Ali, security chief of the Herat police command, said all members of the three gangs have been detained and investigations are underway to verify ownership documents and return the recovered vehicles to their rightful owners.

He added that the suspects had been operating as organized criminal networks and were involved in stealing various types of vehicles through armed attacks.

Herat security officials have urged residents to use surveillance cameras and proper lighting at homes and business areas to help prevent night-time thefts, while encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities to security authorities.
